A Treasury of ...
Unter dieser Reihenbezeichnung veröffentlichte der amerikanische Volkskundler Benjamin Albert Botkin (1901 - 1975) ab den 1940er Jahren etliche umfangreiche Bücher in denen er folkloristische Überlieferungen sammelte.
Diese Legenden, Erzählungen, Anekdoten, Witze oder auch Lieder bieten eine schier unerschöpfliche Fundgrube an Informationen und unterhaltsamen Texten über die Geschichte, Kultur und das Leben der amerikanischen Bevölkerung. Sie können aber auch z. B. den Autoren von Westernromanen zahllose Anregungen und zugleich Hintergrundinformationen liefern, die bei der Abfassung von Texten hilfreich sein können. Ich nehme die mir vorliegenden Bände A TREASURY OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE und A TREASURY OF WESTERN FOLKLORE immer wieder gern in die Hand und habe die Lektüre der einzelnen Textbeiträge sehr genossen.
Die Bücher erschienen zumeist in mehreren (teils revidierten) Auflagen und sind auch heute noch öfters in antiquarischen Angeboten zu finden.
